Do’s and Don’ts When Hiring a Home Inspector

Home Inspection Carolina

Choosing a home inspector is one of the most important steps in buying a home. You want an inspector who works for you. Your home is a major investment. Hidden surprises after closing can be very costly.

So, how do you choose?

Start by researching your inspector. Check their online reviews. Google ratings show how others experienced their service and how they handle concerns. Then visit their website. Look for credentials, extra education, and certifications. These may include Radon Testing, Mold, and Infrared certifications.

Call the inspector directly. Ask questions. Get a feel for their personality. Do they explain things clearly? Do they make sure you understand? You need someone you trust and feel comfortable with. Remember, a home inspector’s only job is to protect you!

First-time buyer? Make sure they’ll take time to explain how the home works. Check out our blog: Ten Questions to Ask a Home Inspector for First-Time Buyers.

Once you’ve chosen an inspector, contact your realtor. Ask if they know them. Have they worked together before? Are they aware of their reputation?

Do your research. Choose wisely. A home inspector’s only job is to protect you!
